This article kinda makes me hope for reddit to survive. I want all the toxic, angry assholes to stay there, not desperately flee to the fediverse in search of their fix.

Very true, especially when you’re a kid.

I couldn’t articulate it when I first learned to ride without training wheels, but it was my first major taste of freedom. It also helped that I was soon one of the fastest in my neighborhood.

You should try Beehaw, or any other instance that’s disabled downvotes. THAT’S awesome. If someone disagrees with your point, they actually begin a conversation, instead of just slapping a down arrow.

Most people consider hate speech unacceptable. Independently coming to that conclusion is not “group think”.

That’s a valid concern, but in “fuzzy” cases like that, I think we can trust the mods. They’ve shown good judgment so far.
