I haven't deleted my accounts yet, but I blocked reddit in my router firewall. This past week I found myself repeatedly going there without thinking, like a genuine addiction.
I didn't realize until the blackout how bad Google search results are without Reddit. Everything from finding video game hints to recommendations on the best bicycle seats... All the best, trustworthy content was from users on Reddit.
I've compromised by using Google cached search results to avoid giving Reddit views.
So the admins that were okay with u/awkwardtheturtle being a powermod are now just all of a sudden serious about quickly enforcing rules against protesting mods?
Honestly the best move now is to overwrite all your comments with replies from chatgpt, since AI's hate feeding from other AI answers. It's like poisoning the well.
I deleted my 12 year old account history after the "AMA" with Spez and will be fully deleting my account on the 30th. That being said I clicked back on reddit today and browsed a bit of what was up and after spending the last few days on kbin and beehaw I don't think I can go back.
The amount of toxicity that I was putting up with on reddit was astounding. I can't believe I didn't notice it was so bad, even on the smaller subs I was active in. I always have referred to reddit as a cesspit with islands of good content, but I think the landscape changed while I wasn't paying attention.
I do hope the protest works and 3rd party devs can continue their wonderful apps, but reddit is kind of over for me regardless. The fediverse somehow feels like the early internet, kinda like going home.
You can but you'll need a permission note from your mom. Seriously it's not a big deal, you can use both at the same time, nothing says you have to quit cold turkey. It would be more beneficial though i think to link discussions to the Fediverse rather than just to Reddit.
Instead of just tweeting, toot to the Fediverse as well. Try not to be annoying about it demanding people use the Fediverse, just do it the quiet sneaky way. Get people clicking Fediverse links with topics they would be interested in, and with their own volition they will learn about the Fediverse and come to look at it as a viable choice, hopefully.
Create the subs you need and CREATE CONTENT FOR IT. People will come as long as you have useful information or interesting content. Ask to be given the control of a sub if needed.
Too many people around here create a sub without content just so they can run the place. This need to stop.
For the reddit thing I started browsing reddit without login a long time ago and I don't regret it. Just don't give them any content.

Not well-versed with mobile solutions. Maybe use something like Brave with built-in blockers. Or run reddit through something like Hermit App which also has blockers.
No, don't point redditors to our servers, let them find by themselves. It's a great filter. If someone is motivated enough to leave reddit then he will find us.
I could not agree with you more. I don’t feel like 48 hours is long enough. I woke up this morning and thought, “I can use Reddit again…wait why? Fuck Reddit they’re assholes.” And then proceeded to jump onto Lemmy and kBin hahaha. Peace out Reddit.
