@arzi@metin fun fact: ants bring injured ones back to their nest - where they recover (for lost legs: 10% die, instead of 35% otherwise) and later take part in raids normally
@arzi@drazraeltod Yes, ants also nurture their wounded. I guess humans do it more out of compassion / empathy though, while the ants aid fellow ants for the purpose of keeping soldiers who can fight again.
@metin I wouldn't claim they do it for purpose, but because that's their instinct.
they are "programmed" that way, because that tiny change lead to better survival chances
the genes and their survival aren't tied to the individual ant - but to the colony. I'm not sure that looking at an ant and judging about reactions is a valid viewpoint.
@drazraeltod Yes, it's instinctive. Humans are a tad more sophisticated than ants, having consciousness, self-awareness, empathy, capacity to reply to Mastodon posts, etc.. 😉
@metin@drazraeltod isn't empathy in humans also "just an instinct" like that from the ants that evolved out of helping others increases the survival of the species?
In some cases this instincts now cause problems when people e.g. vote just out of empathy for a imaginary image of a candidate instead of focusing on what this people actually do, what the real problems are and how it could be solved.
