One of the hurdles to change for users switching from reddit to a federated platform is less content. The logic goes: “smaller community, less content, I can see i’m missing out on stuff over there so I’m not going to switch away”....
I feel like the best reddit posts are going to make their way over here anyway, the same way the best tweets, tiktoks, or tumblr posts made their way to reddit.
I don't think there needs to be a bot reposting everything that gets posted over there, considering all the mod removals and malicious compliance protests mean that overall content quality will likely decline going forward. I can see it getting very spammy very quickly.
Honestly, nobody even looks at other people's Karma. I didn't care much about it. Did people really care so much baout Karma that they mourn about it here, or miss it, or used to farm it?...
There were a lot of attention-seeking people on reddit who weren't necessarily trying to get karma. It just happened that karma was the measure of the attention you were getting, so being a "karmawhore" was a side effect of wanting attention.
I think we're all mourning the loss of community and information found on reddit. Being angry that spez has forced protesters into the position to dismantle these communities is a legitimate and understandable reaction.
I don't see in the above comment that this person is spez-friendly or getting angry at the protesters specifically, just acknowledging that the whole thing sucks for everyone.
I understand that it's frustrating, but I'd like to suggest that we be the bigger people about it.
For every user in the vocal minority saying those things, there are plenty of users who will see kbin and lemmy mentioned more and more, and get curious.
If we start getting a "leavers vs stayers" mentality over here, we might drive away those people who could grow our communities.
Be relentlessly positive about our new home, and we will thrive in the end.
