RTR#43 Break time (kbin.social) en

I just got back from a over five-hour walk with my dog. I had promised him that for a long time, and both of us really needed it ;-) Now, a quick lunch, and I still have an evening workout ahead of me. Today, I decided to take a break from coding, although I probably won't resist doing something, and at night I'll probably tweak...

Drusas,

Damn, my dogs would be stopping for a nap long before we hit that mark.

Anyway, thanks for your updates.

Drusas,

Words can barely describe how awful gastroparesis is. I'd much rather be fat and diabetic than go through that again.

Drusas,

Yes, I understood that. Sorry I wasn't clear. I have experienced gastroparesis a couple of times, and I'm saying that it is worse than a chronic illness in my experience (I also have a couple of chronic illnesses). It's extremely unpleasant. Sure can lose weight since you can't eat anything, though.

Drusas,

I know they do. I have a genetic condition which requires more sodium intake. Not what the article is looking at, but we tend to be overlooked when it comes to nutrition studies.

These researchers are reimagining animal behavior through a feminist lens (sciencenews.org)

So Kamath went to Florida, where she identified individual anoles and tracked their movements day in, day out. Kamath studied the anoles “in a larger area, in a longer period of time than anyone else had ever done,” says Losos, who is now at Washington University in St. Louis. But instead of revealing territorial...

Drusas,

"Feminist" here means looking critically at the unconscious biases of researchers, who have traditionally been mostly heteronormative white males.

Kamath has adopted a feminist approach to science, which critically examines not only how women and gender minorities have been excluded from science, but also how sexist and gendered ideas have influenced the questions scientists ask and how they frame the results of their work — whether they know it or not.

Drusas,

I don't know how people can live like that. I start sweating at 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

Drusas,

I'm not the person you asked, but no. It's a bug. I experience the same. I only get reply notifications if somebody uses @.

Drusas,

I've already been seeing toxic incel shit. They're not trolls, of course--they sincerely believe that garbage.

Drusas,

There should be a community/magazine (I'm on kbin where we call it a magazine, but I think that's a silly name for a community) specifically for pictures of different countries and regions around the world. Unless there is one already that someone knows of?

Unlike previous attempts at trying reddit alternatives (like Voat), kbin and much of the lemmyverse doesn’t seem to be plagued with extreme far right buffoonery. (kbin.social) en

It’s one thing to have differing views, but I’ve seen enough attempted reddit migrations to be relieved that the popular communities in the fediverse so far haven’t been about crazy racist stuff or other extreme right bullshit....

Drusas,

Blocking a person or instance still allows the bigotry to spread.

Drusas,

Your argument is known as the "slippery slope fallacy", @Kantiberl.

Edit: I'm guessing it's a bug, but I can't get this comment to reply to the right person.

Drusas,

Brain fog is a real issue for people with a variety of chronic health problems, and one that is entirely underappreciated by the average person who hasn't experienced it.

Edit: further evidenced by the fact that this has already been downvoted just a few minutes later

Drusas,

It's worth noting that it is not currently known whether or not reducing inflammation will have a significant impact on long Covid symptoms. Research is still being done in that area.
