brickfrog,

Possible that all the mods are on holiday this week. Or they only log in 1-2 times a week.

brickfrog,

Are they actually independent of Reddit Inc? I had assumed a lot of those Reddit accounts moderating a huge amount of subs are actually Reddit employees.

Also those type of Reddit accounts often don’t do much actual moderating. They are the reason people complain about top mods that can’t be removed, never respond to modmail, etc. & will randomly wake up to make changes to the subreddit whenever they feel like it.

I think the rush to recreate communities is a bad idea. (kbin.social) en

If you recall reddits growth many of their communities evolved as offshoots of a single generic community. This made it easier for people to see discussions they normally would not get involved in, and once the posts in a similar category reached critical mass it moved to a sub Reddit....

brickfrog,

Yeah you’re right, there are already a ton of duplicate & niche communities spread across different Lemmy/Kbin instances. It’s strange when someone decides to go create yet another niche community in another instance when there’s plenty of others on the same topic with barely any activity of their own.

I’m also seeing a lot of accounts creating communities without doing anything else afterwards. Communities won’t succeed if the creators/moderators have no interest in posting anything or even updating their own sidebar description.

It took a while but I finally got my Reddit data export (kbin.social) en

It took several weeks but I finally got my Reddit data export for my account. If it wasn't already obvious, the direct messages there are not encrypted in any meaningful way. One interesting variable I found was in the file named "statistics", there's a variable named "is_deleted" which is set to false. This makes me wonder if,...

brickfrog,

Just curious, did you note if you had any edited posts/comments prior to the data export? What did you receive in the export for those?

And if you had edited, then later deleted, posts/comments what ended up being exported?

brickfrog,

That might be expected? They just announced that chats/messages prior to January 1 2023 were nuked so you probably won’t see anything prior to that date.

What’s strange is that the articles claim a data request should still be able to get you that old data but I guess that’s not entirely true.
