How Do I Launch Firefox with Specific Pages but Prevent Said Pages from Loading in Subsequent Windows? (kbin.fedi.cr) en

So, it’s “migrate to Firefox because Google is doing more evil things to the web” day. Because of my need to remain constantly connected to my email, I configured Google Chrome to launch several pages at start up: my personal email, calendar, and drive, my university email, calendar, and drive, Facebook Messenger, and...

Here you go, you can just use a dedicated bookmark folder to mange your startup tabs.

addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/…/startup-tabs/

Hope it helps.

Open tabs. I want to see them all, always.

If you are fine with running nightly, maybe multiple tab rows could be helpful

Firefox crashed after long inactivity (fedia.io)

Hello, I have a new pc and installed w10 from 0 with all the programs that I have always used; the problem is that firefox has crashed after a long inactivity, the same thing happened on my previous pc i thought it was because i had mistakenly deleted the information from the roaming folder, but not because the event was...

I would suggest you take a look into the event logs. Maybe there is something that will indicate the reason for the crash.

igorlogius,
@igorlogius@lemmy.world avatar

well, you can do what you want, but if you are interested in further analysing the issue, i’d suggest you take a look at about:crashes and see if you can find anything there. if you post your findings, i am sure people here will be happy to try and help you out. If you decide against further investigations then i still wish you the best of luck in finding a solution you’ll be content with.

Yes, follow the instructions here:

addons.mozilla.org/en-US/…/tab-preview-on-hover/

Hope it helps.

@igorlogius@lemmy.world avatar

That tab you are hovering is “special” (because it has a protected domain addons.mozilla.org, there are a couple of them ) addons can not inject content so i assume generating a screenshot also wont work here.

Also the addon wont be able to generate previews if the tabs are discarded, so the tabs need to have been active at least once in the current sessions, otherwise there also wont be a preview available.

Thats what i gather from my own knowlege and from this issue github.com/easonwong-de/Tab-Preview-On-Hover/…/1

tldr;

  1. Some protected domains wont have previews (addons.mozilla.org)
  2. unloaded aka. discarded tabs which havent at least once been active in the current browser session (restored as unloaded) wont have a preview either.

Hope this info helps.

Is it working for you?

Well … in my case the hover cards dont show up at all. The tab image generation seems to work, from what i can see when i debug the capture loop, so i assume there is some issue with the CSS theme.

AFAIK, you can find all installed XPI files in $MOZCONFIG/firefox/<profile>/extensions/You can find and access your $MOZCONFIG/firefox/<profile>, via about:profiles

PS: The XPIs dont contain the configurations of the individual extensions.

Hope this info helps.

The add-on should be brought back to Firefox!

Might be best to look for alternatives instead.

Add-on's notification sound is muted (fedia.io) en

I don't like notifications being shown in Windows Action Center, so I disabled it by changing alerts.useSystemBackend to false. The problem is Firefox built-in notification system just decides to mute notification sound and only shows the notifications. It's kinda annoying especially since I'm using this timer add-on. Please...

i dont think the built-in notification system has sounds. The system only has sound because the system might be configured to output sound on notifications … Not sure, just what i think might be the issue.

igorlogius,
@igorlogius@lemmy.world avatar

Hoho … here i go … debugging again … Let’s see …

  1. The promodoro clock seems to create an audio element inside its background script, that it uses to output the sound. - pretty standard.
  2. And i am not aware of any way to specifically block the audio output of a single addon , via permissions or settings.

So my suggetion would be:

Install an addon that outputs sounds the same way. For example: addons.mozilla.org/…/notify-on-download-events/ and check if audio can be played back with that.

Come back with your results and we continue from there.

I think i found the issue. Try setting media.autoplay.blocking_policy to 0

ref. wiki.mozilla.org/Media/block-autoplay

igorlogius,
@igorlogius@lemmy.world avatar

not sure , but maybe it is media codec/encoding related?

You could maybe try addons.mozilla.org/en-US/…/enhanced-h264ify/ to check.

AFAIK, the Auto Tab Discard Addon basically only rewrites the tabtitle with the 💤 , since there is no other way for addons to add custom icons to the tabs at the moment, just fyi.
