because bots will shitpost for pennies

The site will literally be run over with chatgpt bots farming for pennies overnight.

In the short term, yes. And in the context of them trying for an IPO, that's probably what they want. But it absolutely will kill the site in the end because no one actually wants to hang out in an ad riddled wasteland.

@mrbubblesort@kbin.social avatar

That's actually an excellent point, but it has the chance to backfire spectacularly if they can't IPO or come up with a more higher earning replacement before the end of the next fiscal year. So I totally expect them to fuck it up

Instead what they'll get is a metric shitton of bots trying to game the system, further tanking the site

Well, the site's mascot is an alien, so ....

@mrbubblesort@kbin.social avatar

This is exactly what they're gonna do. I'd love to see them implement something like what /r/politicalhumor did and set up automod to react to user comments. So for example, if anyone says "the is offensive" it deletes the post and bans the user

What does that even really mean? Reddit employees hardly do anything, so they need to get better at doing nothing now?

Hot take: 18 years of user contributions to reddit will serve as a base model for an AI that generates content and conversations. the reddit experience continues as a simulation, to harvest clicks, sales and ad revenue. (kbin.social) en

most of the time you'll be talking to a bot there without even realizing. they're gonna feed you products and ads interwoven into conversations, and the AI can be controlled so its output reflects corporate interests. advertisers are gonna be able to buy access and run campaigns. based on their input, the AI can generate...

Seriously asking, what makes you think the fediverse is immune to that? Eventually they'll get good enough that they'll be almost indistinguishable from normal users, so how can we keep the bots out?

mrbubblesort,
@mrbubblesort@kbin.social avatar

Not the guy you were asking, but the ones I found were blatantly obvious because they would copy and reword info specific to the user they stole it from. Like "as a conservative, I wholly support what Ron DeSantis is doing in Florida" changed to "as an unwed teen-aged mother ..." kind of thing. Eventually though the bots are gonna get too good to spot I bet

When the bots started complaining about n*****s, I knew it had perfected emulating the average redditor

Does anybody feel like the quality of reddit has already dropped massively? (kbin.social) en

I see a lot of comments from bootlickers on how the protests are dumb and stupid and dont work and engagement metrics are still holding but the quality of posts and comments has noticeably depreciated imo. So much so that whenever I visit the site Im actually shocked at how bad it is.

We need more content, but it's making me kind of averse to pushing so hard to get the rest over here, lest they just bring the shit behavior with them

All places eventually trend towards their Eternal September. In the meantime just push back against it as much you can and enjoy what you got.
