I'm always baffled when someone says they don't know what software they should build (for a side/hobby/open source project).

I mean, just look at the software you are using every day - millions of opportunities in front of your eyes... 👀 ¯_(ツ)_/¯

@13thFloor

I've been using this software for a long time, and thought the wider Fediverse might dig it. A tool for astrologers, Maitreya (formerly known as Maitreya's Dream) is a free, open source software released under the GNU license that charts both Western and Vedic Astrology, and has been in active development for over 15 years.

https://www.saravali.de/maitreya.html

Features:

  • Many astrological objects (Upagrahas, Kalavelas, Arabic points, Uranian planets, planetoids).
  • A lot of configuration options reflecting different schools and giving a chance for research
  • Classic Dasas in text and graphical views (tree and bar diagram)
  • Ashtakavarga, Shadbala, classic Yogas and their predictions from classic scriptures
  • Solar (annual) chart, transits and progressions
  • Various optical features like skins and highlight of aspects for charts and Sarvatobhadra
  • Uranian astrology: sensitive points (midpoints, reflection points, sums, differences) and their events, annual predictions.
  • Partner charts, ephemeris, eclipses, Hora.

@13thFloor @caribouslim Thanks for the link - interesting software. Looks like you intended it for the 13thFloor Microblog, but it didn't get there. Adding this reply to see if it does the trick.

The upcoming release of the Open Source Definition (v1.11) will recognize as an software by @MongoDB. 🎉

@anderseknert
The repository is just a few days old. The main value it offers is an improved definition of open source that addresses modern challenges such as open source hijacking. For those who lean towards joining larger crowds, OSI's 1997 guidelines might be a more fitting option:

@JasonGoldman all I see is a lame attempt try and open source wash some proprietary licenses. And why is that page talking about OSI in past tense and like something that doesn’t exist anymore? That seems intentionally misleading.

I have been looking around and found a few new Distros which I plan to test and perhaps use. These are all Arch based.

Exodia (dwm, bspwm) Arch Distro:

CachyOS (gnome, kde) Arch Distro:

I wonder why you list the window managers/desktop environments separately. One would think that all Arch-based distributions (“distros”) support most window managers anyway?

ManyRoads,
@ManyRoads@kbin.social avatar

@tux0r I list them, so I know which distros emphasize which window Managers/Desktop
Environments. Generally distros provide excellent clues to learn from... As for sameness, it is difficult to achieve design & implementation objectives if you don't know how someone created a particular setup. New tools and tricks appear all the time.

und so geht es...oder?

I personally write-up what I learn and share it. Not everyone does that, though. I can assure you, it's Free and worth every penny. Seriously though, you are free to wander my writings to check the details and understand more of what I do with what I discover, assuming that is of interest.
