AmidFuror,

This article mentions scientific studies that support its myriad factual claims but doesn't cite any of them. There is a lot of low-quality, tentative research about the health benefits of various diets. A serious discussion would need to include the limitations of such studies for the food in question.

This post seems to have little to do with science at best. At worst it invokes pseudoscience "superfood" health nonsense.

AmidFuror,

I haven't heard this one. Did it walk into a bar?

Reddit became hypersensitive... goodbye (kbin.fedi.cr)

After 10 years and a few hundred thousand karma made a comment in r/europe that got me banned… in a discussion about AfD (a far, far right German party that has neo-Nazis as members) I made the mistake of saying “Guess we didn’t drop enough bombs on Dresden” (since much of the support for AfD is from the east)… got...

AmidFuror,

I don't consider myself hypersensitive, but that was a really asshat remark to make to a large group of people.

RNA for the first time recovered from an extinct species - Stockholm University (su.se) en

RNA for the first time recovered from an extinct species A new study shows the isolation and sequencing of more than a century-old RNA molecules from a Tasmanian tiger specimen preserved at room temperature in a museum collection. This resulted in the reconstruction of skin and skeletal muscle transcriptomes from an extinct...

AmidFuror,

I don't think there's a lot of value to having the muscle transcriptome of an extinct species, since it's probably similar enough to extant marsupial or even eutherian muscle transcriptomes. And we're not going to be building adult thylacines from scratch using this information.

Very surprising RNA could survive this long, though.

AmidFuror,

Didn't have enough comment karma.

AmidFuror,

Republicans became shittier drivers during COVID.

AmidFuror,

The fact that Relay can stay free of charge while "exploring subscription options" means Reddit modified their terms with some developers. The original deal announced at the end of May meant devs would incur charges starting July 1, although they wouldn't have to pay for those charges until August. That would mean racking up potentially millions in costs right away.

Reddit said they would work with developers who kept communication open, but then they wouldn't answer emails. If a deal was made with Relay it would have been very last minute and therefore rather unprofessional.

I used Relay but will not reinstall because it is temporarily free. I am done with Reddit. They don't respect their users or recognize where their value derives from.

Muometric navigation system - GPS alternative that penetrates underground, indoors, and underwater (nature.com) en

While satellite-based global navigation systems have become essential tools in our daily lives, their effectiveness is often hampered by the fact that the signals cannot be accessed in underground, indoor, or underwater environments. Recently, a novel navigation system has been invented to address this issue by utilizing the...

AmidFuror,

It doesn't seem too important what someone you have blocked can see, if blocking is working and you don't see them.

AmidFuror,

Something bent space-time and made tomorrow July 29th.

AmidFuror,

Great.... Thanks to this discovery there are two missing links in place of this one!

AmidFuror,

More like stumbles about, am I right?

Does anybody feel like the quality of reddit has already dropped massively? (kbin.social) en

I see a lot of comments from bootlickers on how the protests are dumb and stupid and dont work and engagement metrics are still holding but the quality of posts and comments has noticeably depreciated imo. So much so that whenever I visit the site Im actually shocked at how bad it is.

AmidFuror,

We'd need an objective way to measure lameness and then review a large set of posts (on a particular sub?) from a couple of months ago vs now. Criteria have to be pre-determined to avoid the post hoc fallacy.

Average words or characters per comment? Number of insults directed at other commenters (measured by someone blinded to which group they came from)? Number of "controversial" comments judged by large numbers of up and downvoted?

I dunno. I'm not doing it. Not a social scientist. Just suggesting an interesting experiment.

📢Entire mod team on r/mildlyinteresting (and more subs) removed and locked out of their accounts after changing their rules upon community's request. (They're also switching subs BACK to SFW) (kbin.social) en

EDIT: GO DM MODS OF YOUR FAVORITE SUBREDDITS AND POLITELY ASK ABOUT MIGRATION!: something as simple as "Hey, I love this community but I no longer use reddit, will you guys be making a community on Kbin or other alternatives? Let me know please, thanks." will work!! We need more voices encouraging migration!...
