I don't think anyone knows or the feature is currently broken. I just looked for 30 minutes and found nothing (partly because the toggle label is indexed with pages, so EVERY kbin post is returned).

BUT

Just of the hell of it, tried Bing and ChatGPT popped up this:

According to a Reddit post1, Kbin is a decentralized platform for content aggregation and microblogging that operates within the Fediverse networkDynamic lists are a feature of Kbin that allows you to create custom lists of posts based on filters2.

I mean, really? That's the turd time I've seen this mentioned today!

I would agree if 1/4 of the country wasn't covered in a fog equivalent to smoking a pack of cigarettes while another 1/4 is getting 115F temps. We had to wear masks a couple days ago... outside. When the 80 year old weatherman-for-life on the news says he's never seen anything like this, you know it's bad. I wasn't paying attention to the weather and was confused a week ago when I went outside and everything smelled like a delightful campfire but there was no visible smoke.

And folks aren't at the stores. I had to grab a few 4th of July things today and went to Costco and Target. I was 1 of maybe 10 people in both. On a normal Saturday, even during rainstorms and blizzards, there are usually 15-20 minute lines at checkout with all registers open. I walked right up to the register and only half were open.

So people are either traveling or stuck inside, both prime mobile Reddit conditions.

Haha, yeah, maaaaybe a I was a teensy, tiny bit hyperbolic with the numbers, but I did check the weather map to make sure it wasn't too far out there. But, in my defense, do we really count the Dakotas, Montana, and Idaho? We all know they don't exist and are simply giant holes that reach down to the core of the Earth. That removes a big chunk of area from the total size.

While larger, more general communities are thriving on the Fediverse - I'm missing out on the niche communities (kbin.social) en

Gaming, news, tech, general literature. All of these are somewhat thriving, with a steady influx of posts and comments. At the same time, the userbase is sorely lacking for more niche communities. In my case it'd be stuff like poetry, yoga, religion, linguistics, meditation. Or many other communities I'd doubt they'd form a...

Same. I think we need some way to coordinate the initial burst of content for some of the smaller subs. I hate to say it, but maybe we need to assign "homework" - Request (not require) new subscribers to contribute unique stories or info relevant to the mag/comm on some type of schedule.

Something like:
"As we try to grow this new community, we want to hear from you. We're asking (not requiring) all new subscribers to start a new post within their first week covering some aspect of the topic they find personally interesting or that they feel could help others. Just add "(1P)" to the title of the post. It doesn't matter if it's something you said elsewhere, if you're new to the entire topic and just want to post a bunch of questions, you have a funny story to tell, or have a super niche specialty.

Also, we should consider having more moderator-level users in subs to reduce the burden of moderation. It's more daunting if you're asked to be one of 3 mods than it is to be one of 15. We should also look into incentivizing moderation duties, but there's probably a much longer discussion to be had about that.

And YOUR exuberance has inspired me to commit to upping my post game. I was never a big poster on Reddit, but mostly because I just didn't want to deal with the contrarian and amateur professionals fallout. It might be best to focus on the niche communities, since that's where the real valuable stuff exists on Reddit.

Good luck out there!

Everyone feels a little lost here at first. You just have to roll with confusion and take everything at your own pace. The best part is that 99.9% of the users are new here (within the last month), so no one's gonna give you shit for not fully understanding.

Welcome!

Don't worry, you'll catch on soon enough. Just canoodle around until something interesting hits you and then follow the "how federation works" rabbit hole until it stops making sense. Rinse and repeat. Remember that things are still in flux, so you'll probably run into bugs at some point. Using the platform gets significantly easier once you can identify what proper operation.

For example, if I let a kbin thread sit in a background tab for too long, it loses sync with the server. Once I reach the tab, and interaction that deals with storage (voting, commenting, etc.) brings me to 1 or 2 error pages. At first I thought this was a problem with which instance I joined or some federation thing I didn't understand. Nope. It's a minor bug. Just needed to refresh the page to get around it.

The fediverse is getting better and more stable every day. There's still a lot to be done, but the devs are doing a solid job. A couple weeks ago there were 300 kbin users. Now there are 235,000. Lemmy went from 50k to 1.5m. That's crazy!

LOL I thought the same thing. "Have they considered... not sucking?"
