Yesterday I followed the docker guide for setting up a new KBin instance. Some parts of it are working, but it seems like it's not federating properly....
This looks rather like a discovery issue and is quite common with newly created instances on the Fediverse. You have to search for everything you want for a couple of times before you make your instance aware of the content or other instances aware of yours.
You can more easily overcome this by connecting your instance to an ActivityPub Relay, but I don't know how this is done on a Kbin instance.
Some users wonder if the dev will be charged for having it still up, others argue Reddit can't charge him without having signed a contract. Everyone is confused as to why the API change hasn't made it inoperable....
I was a RedReader user for quite a while (as in years). While being a bit spartan, I found it to be the best Reddit app for my preferences. Period.
But indeed, nowadays, there is actual (great) content on Lemmy and Kbin, and I am willing to get to it. Not much time left for Reddit. Sorry, spez, fuck you!
I didn't quit. I still have an account with roughly, 19000 karma, where I posted and commented some interesting stuff, as well as shitposts. It became quite personal to me, as it wasn't Facebook and discussions were more genuine and clever.
I'm still under the shock of the entire thing. I still enter periodically. However, this whole thing feels so foreign. Foreign, yet so familiar. Since I had my account. And the discussions are kinda the same. The same I went in, the same discussions that I enjoyed. Yet I feel I no longer belong in that place. That is no longer representing me. And I kinda find it weird.
However, I love this place. I love Kbin. I love the fediverse. I love the fact that I no longer need x accounts and x apps for all my social needs. With one account, I can follow stuff from everywhere. And I do not get ads. I get the content. I am not the product of a social network. :D
