Why pretend we never measure value in things other than money? It's obviously a loss to the user experience for those who haven't moved to offer sites, and a loss to the knowledge base that users had built there. I think you know that's what's being discussed here, yet you're only countering from reddit's productive of what would constitute a loss... for some unimaginable reason.

Be wary of spiteful Reddit users (kbin.social) en

In the past week and a half, I've noticed Reddit behaviors starting to try and poison all of the places that people are taking refuge in to get away from the toxicity, myself included. They've started to DDoS Lemmy for a while, which is a Reddit thing to do and what they're notorious of doing whenever they feel they don't like...

OP goes

I left Reddit because the toxicity levels have gotten unbearable.

And then seriously goes around disagreevoting replies like this one. Can we say "part of the problem"? Can we not foster a community where every counterpoint is met with that small but constant hostility? Be the change you want to see, OP, and reserve that shit for straight-up unproductive comments.

Karma: it's hidden on Kbin, and I can't find it on Lemmy. So, there is no pressure to post or comment something. Do you know that feeling on Reddit when you have 500 karma, you write a comment, and later you have 480 karma? That's what I'm talking about.

Eh?

You have 3140 karma ("reputation"). It's not hidden.

I can block people on kbin, does lemmy not have that?

Of course, it's more an "I don't want to see this user" than "I don't want this user to see me," but it keeps you from ever engaging with people who prove themselves little bitches more than once at least.

I feel sad looking back over what reddit became. I don't regret any of my actions in response. And even if I did, my actions were reddit's fault; they'd get the blame, so I'd still have nothing to regret.

I won't contribute to a website that treats the people who built it the way they did, so their choice to treat their community and app devs that way directly resulted in my actions.

To give the poster the benefit of the doubt, it's probably just a very poorly worded frustration that /r/20flavorsofshitpost (with the mindless horde) is operational when /r/thethingiwant (with a passionate small community that adds a lot of value) is dead. It sure could have been communicated better, but I really don't think it's meant to claim the protest only affects the poster's interests.

It's harder to see the difference when 10% of a huge sub leaves than 80% of a tiny one.

This is from the various services trying to talk to each other in ways they weren't originally designed to do, really. Our "upvote" is a mastodon "favorite" (like) while our "boost" is functionally a retweet/reblog. Kbin tries to bridge the gap between threaded content and microblogging, and it gets about 90% of the way there; all it really needs to do is change it so that upvotes are the ones that contribute to reputation instead of boosts, which are functionally useless outside a fully microblog-style environment.

Goddammit, now I want tacos.

Stepping in here to yell at you guys for downvoting this guy: Everyone was all for this idea of undated screenshots being shit JUST YESTERDAY. Are you downvoting because he's been downvoted, or because you disagree (STILL BAD), or because you genuinely think this comment is unconstructive?

Please don't let the reddit "hivemind vote" come over here too.

@harmonea@kbin.social avatar

I'm NOT saying this as a thinly veiled implication that you should leave, I'm legitimately and genuinely curious: if you don't like it, why haven't you blocked the community yet? Is there really enough content here that you do enjoy to keep you coming back?

harmonea,
@harmonea@kbin.social avatar

Oh okay, my bad. I've seen a lot of grousing lately and just assumed this was another. Thanks for being chill about it.

Showing your age :P Notch hasn't been involved since Microsoft bought the company.

Reddit removed moderators behind the latest protests before restoring a few of them - restored by a different admin than the one that removed them... (theverge.com) en

"Soon after we published this story, one of the r/MildlyInteresting moderators told The Verge that the entire mod team has now been reinstated — and by a different admin than the one that removed them. The mod’s account had received a 7-day suspension, but that has been reversed, too, they said. A Verge commenter who...

Or, the random person saying the mods got reinstated is a plant and just wants people to have faith and come back.

This is a fact that's easy to verify independently. Why sow conspiracy? The admins are guilty of a lot, but this isn't one of them. Yet. Let's stick to true information so we can't be painted as rabid anti-reddit conspiracists?
