Mozilla reverses course, re-lists extensions it removed in Russia (osnews.com) en

In alignment with our commitment to an open and accessible internet, Mozilla will reinstate previously restricted listings in Russia. Our initial decision to temporarily restrict these listings was made while we considered the regulatory environment in Russia and the potential risk to our community and staff.

[Off-topic] As I was reading the comments from a related thread, I noticed that the comments there can be tagged by the community. (See Alfman's comment, being tagged as "verbose"). That would be an amazing feature here in the Fediverse forums/link-sharers.

[On-topic] I wonder if Mozilla was buying time to retract its staff from Russia? Even if not, I respect their ability to revert a decision in a transparent way, and apologise to the community without sounding like a corporate "apology". It shows that they actually care about the principles that they're babbling about, even if they violated them with the temporary removal.

Yup, you're right - the tag is for the user, not the comment as I incorrectly said.

Either way it would be a neat feature IMO. (I'd be probably among the first being tagged "verbose", but I'm OK with this - other people could be tagged as "informative", "fun" etc.)

More like asking them what to do, that wouldn't put either their heads or Mozilla's values in the guillotine. Looking for options.

That's just conjecture from my part, mind you.

I follow a "rule of seven" with tabs: once I open the 8th tab, I check the other 7 to see if

  • I don't need it any more - close it down
  • I'll need it in a near future - keep it open
  • I'll need it in a far future - bookmark it, close it down

Seven is small enough to keep track of them, but large enough to be flexible.

I trust Reddit enough to manipulate the numbers to make the situation better than it looks like.

That said, some increase in short-term profit is to be expected, when a company exploits its own value: getting rid of third party apps, decreasing running costs by locking LLM training bots out, being rather aggressive on pushing towards the official app to anyone who “dares” to use a plain mobile browser, wrestling control of the subreddits from the “landed gentry”, so goes on. The problem will be only quantified later, as profits will drop and “nobody will know” why.

So it’s a lot like eating the seeds for your next season. Sure, you’ll be fuller now, but you’ll starve later.

You made me realise that I worded it really, really bad. (I need to fix it.)

I’m glad that you guys got the meaning that I was trying to convey though - that Reddit Inc. is scum, you can trust on the fact that they’re scum, and spez et al. are likely distorting the situation to make Reddit look more profitable than it is.
