Awesome work as always! The new all content page is much more convenient and I don’t think I've ever seen someone be this considerate while advertising (if you could even call it that). One thing I've noticed is that the support us part of the sidebar is somehow in French for me. I don't have any language settings set to French and this is the first time I've encountered such an #issue.
I really like this #feature but currently it seems really difficult to activate it. Could you maybe turn this * button to a switch to indicate when it's on or off and to make sure it doesn't turn off when switching pages?
The aggregate view sounds exactly like what I was silently hoping for one day. Exciting! Is there a way to use this test version via the PWA on my phone?
The aggregate view is really nice, especially on my sub page! This feature should hopefully be even better with the upcoming federation improvements assuming they'll tackle microblog federation, as that's quite iffy right now.
Since aggregate view essentially just combining threads and microblogs, it'd be best to have it as an option on the header alongside Threads, Microblog, and People. Maybe call it "All Content" or something like that to make sure it's clear what it is. Going with this, it'd also be nice to be able to toggle the default view (Threads, Microblog, All Content, or maybe People) in the settings.
ETA: Also noticed that the color of the new comment marker has been changed to be a lot less obtrusive (at least on darker themes). Very nice! Might be a good idea to have the color change with the theme.
Nothing will escape you, as usual. I'm adding it to the todo list, even though I was planning to skip filters for now, but... it's actually a pretty nice feature.
Images definitely worked with Lemmy, I tested it multiple times some time ago. It still works with Mastodon and other platforms, so something broke after one of Lemmy's changes. I'll take a closer look in a few hours to see if I can fix something on my end. I'll fix the counter as well ;)
If we get user tags at some point I am gonna tag you Beetlejuice cause boom, there ya are :P
If it's anything related to Lemmy's software version (I seem to recall that can cause issues with compatibility to us?) for extra info, the 2 lemmy instances I'm using when checking (lemmy.zip and dbzer0) both look to be on 0.18.5 of their software.
It definitely seems to be a recent change, because I was able to see images in threads previously, but I can’t on the latest Meme Monday thread on either of the instances I use (lemmy.blahaj.zone and midwest.social, both on 0.18.5). Could definitely be a reversion in either the Kbin or Lemmy software.
I can’t tell you exactly when it broke, because the app I usually use (Eternity) doesn’t support inline images.
There have been no recent changes in this area in /kbin. It seems that Lemmy instances have completely lost connectivity with the rest of the world. Test comments written on Mastodon in lemmy post are not federated.
Yep, images attached to Mastodon post also do not display in Lemmy comments. I'm afraid I won't be able to do anything about it on my end. I'll report the bug to the Lemmy devs, although they've probably already noticed it.
Hey @ernest, I noticed that the new comment markers are rather hard to see on some themes. They work perfectly on the Tokyo Night theme, but did you test them on others? This is how it looks for me using the Dark theme. I also tried the Light theme with the same issue.
edit: Forgot to mention, I did turn off all my userscripts and custom css.
Ahh, okay I see what you mean now. Interesting. It actually makes page loads slightly slower on my old-ass Chromebook (but that's on me; this machine is a few years out of support for updates).
I wonder if this is better or worse for server performance, though.
This may be more noticeable on weaker internet connections. There is also browser-side caching, so it may not work perfectly everywhere. Currently, this is an experimental version. For the server, it's marginally better, but there are no significant differences, is more about the user experience.
Hey Ernest, thanks for the hard work. I just wanted to mention that I think comment wrapping is still a little broken on mobile. It separates by color, but indentation doesn't exist and it's pretty difficult to figure out who is responding to who in a crowded thread. Example photo attached.
All things considered though, a relatively minor issue. But one I'd like to see addressed (especially if the effort is being made now to introduce / fix comment wrapping.)
If there's a better place to report bugs than here please let me know.
Jokes aside, will this deployment process perhaps open up the possibility for beta testers? I think you've mentioned before that you have an experimental fork that you use for testing. I'd love to help out in that process.
Hey, I'll let you know when the test environments are fully ready. Currently, I'm using it more for reading logs of communication between instances. But I want to do it more thoroughly soon. Thanks!
