In the past week and a half, I've noticed Reddit behaviors starting to try and poison all of the places that people are taking refuge in to get away from the toxicity, myself included. They've started to DDoS Lemmy for a while, which is a Reddit thing to do and what they're notorious of doing whenever they feel they don't like...

As the title says, Reddit replied to my GDPR request to delete all my data saying I had to do it first, which I suspect is in violation of GDPR law....

for what it's worth, folks from pre-Musk Twitter who looked into this issue determined that tweets basically did fall under the GDPR.

That's interesting! It does set a precedent. I'm just going to have to wait for a European class action against Reddit. I hope someone with time and money in their hands takes the initiative.

In my case it'd be stuff like poetry, yoga, religion, linguistics, meditation. Or many other communities I'd doubt they'd form a...

Hi there. I wasn't in the linguistic community in Reddit, but I am a linguist and I would be willing to create one here and moderate it. Linguistics is very broad. What were the topics discussed in the reddit community? I am a psycholingusit, so the focus of my contributions would be mostly in that field, and I imagine mostly scholarly content being shared and discussed, but I would like to know what someone like you, who used to be a member, would expect from such a community.

When I joined Kbin I created the communities I was most active in. Someone created my favorite community just before I did, so I instead requested to be added as a mod and I am now the most active poster there. I am the author of most of the posts there, and the number of subscribers is growing slowly but steadily. I think we just have to do what what's needed to make this the place we want it to be. A lot of us are going to have to go from lurkers to moderators, from occasional users to prolific posters. Things have to start somewhere. If we all just wait until someone else does what we expect, then we're all just stay waiting and nothing is going to happen.

I was looking at reddit today, and the front-page felt like nothing happened. I scrolled and scrolled and scrolled and clicked into comments. Everything is popping off buzzing with activity. All the subreddits I was subscribed to that went dark are now back up and business as usual....

I've also read that many threads in Reddit are being kept active by Large Language Model (e.g. ChatGPT)-based bots pretending to be users to give a sense of normality
