IPOs are typically a cash grab. Stock is offered for purchase at a price, and usually there’s a bump in price. The first investors will sell for a profit at peak price, and then it will drop to whatever value the market decides. And that could be higher or lower than the initial price per share.

I wish you would comment. Contributors in the sub aren't following the rules very well. I contributed pretty often, however I've slacked off since the beginning of October. The Israel/Palestine conflict has really taken over my feed (as well as some Trek and Star Wars memes). Yet with the Middle East news it's been difficult posting for some reason. My activity has been diminished severely.

Well this sounds profitable for Reddit.

New study looks again at how alcohol influences attraction (arstechnica.com) en

For a phenomenon that is so deeply engrained in the public consciousness, the scientific evidence regarding what has been called "beer goggles" is surprisingly inconsistent. The term refers to finding people more attractive after drinking alcohol, and there is a wealth of scientific evidence both for and against its existence.

At least they received an email. I had a post removed from one subreddit without notification, and only because it poked a little fun at the subreddit's topic. Overall it was positive, but for one moderator, I assume it got under their skin.

Don't know how many other posts may have been treated the same. Don't seem to get that here though.

Since moving to kbin.social from Reddit I have been 10 times more active in posting because I want the platform to be successful and engaging. It's been a very refreshing change, but it only works if you participate.

Putin might find some old Soviet Era Roubles underneath his grandmother's floorboards. It might be worth more than current Roubles.

I don't know; I don't go on Reddit any longer.

That said, r/worldnews was very pro-Ukraine. It could be that subreddit the Russians are referring to as well.

Reddit may have won...

Now let's outline how they really lost in the rest of the article.

I use Firefox on mobile to access currently; I'll switch over to Artemis after kbin.social instance is available. With Firefox I do experience logout from time to time, however I have my password and username autosaved, so login is as simple as a click.

It's not really annoying at all, and quite frankly it's much better then enriching that Reddit asshat.

End of the line for Russia and Ukraine’s partnership in rocketry (arstechnica.com) en

A last gasp in a long-standing link between Russia and Ukraine in the field of rocketry could come this week in an unlikely place—the rural wetlands of eastern Virginia—halfway around the world from the battlefields where the nations' military forces are locked in a deadly conflict....

What is Reddit CEO Steve Huffman doing? (theverge.com) en

One of the weirder phenomena of the low interest rate era in tech was a tendency to see companies primarily as investments. The goal was not to have a functional business, but an exit, often via IPO or acquisition. I have begun to wonder if that explains what Reddit CEO Steve Huffman has been up to lately....

Madison_rogue,
@Madison_rogue@kbin.social avatar

What a stark difference between last year and this year. Last year there was the outpouring of support for Ukraine. This year it will be a "fuck u/spez" shit show.

Put anything to a vote
Run weighted polls to make big decisions in your community, like getting input on rules changes or deciding how to distribute Points.

Unlike regular polls, these polls give a larger voice to people who have contributed more to the community. The more Community Points someone has earned, the more weight their vote carries.

This will end well...

EDIT

What they're really looking for are a bunch of whales to drive engagement.

The article comments are linked to Reddit, if you click on "Replies" it routes you to the topic on Reddit where there are posts about leaving the platform.

I will give you 2 shiba inu coins (worth $0.00001574).

Madison_rogue,
@Madison_rogue@kbin.social avatar

Oh, absolutely this is the case. Reddit could even run bot accounts to gain a lion's share of points for any particular sub they want to control, thereby stifling any sort of protest or activism authorized by sub vote.

Moreover, Gupta suggests that the traditional interpretation of the "cosmological constant," which represents dark energy responsible for the accelerating expansion of the universe, needs revision. Instead, he proposes a constant that accounts for the evolution of the coupling constants. This modification in the cosmological model helps address the puzzle of small galaxy sizes observed in the early universe, allowing for more accurate observations.

So, correct me if I've interpreted this incorrectly, that if coupling constants evolve over time, dark energy model needs to be revised. Does that mean it helps to simplify and/or resolve the dark energy theory or does it in fact make it more complex?

ELI5...if that's possible.

There are like 2.7 million reviews. At a rating of 4.8 it would take tens of thousands to reduce that by just a tenth of a point even if they rated it as a 1.

Artificial Muscles Flex for the First Time: Ferroelectric Polymer Innovation in Robotics (scitechdaily.com) en

A new ferroelectric polymer that efficiently converts electrical energy into mechanical strain has been developed by Penn State researchers. This material, showing potential for use in medical devices and robotics, overcomes traditional piezoelectric limitations.

It looks like that's the case. I found a comment that was mine from 10 months ago. It looks as if Reddit recovered my deleted comments after I deleted my account.

At this point, I don't care. I left all that behind.

The link is fixed in the post body. I don't get this at all. I only copied the BotDefense link which is available through clicking the title, yet it pasted the next post from Reddit in the post body? Weird, but the link is fixed.

Thanks for mentioning it!

The saddest part of all this is the countless hours of work unpaid people have poured into the site, moderating, developing, and content creating only to see it end the manner it has.

I'm okay leaving it behind. I didn't contribute much over the 12 years I was there. I mostly lurked. I'm just sorry for all the people that worked hard to make the community better.

Have you tried using Wayback Machine to see if there's an archive of the sites you have bookmarked?

I did interact with a BBS site or two, but then got caught up in the AOL wave. I used their platform, Geocities, and a few other chat sites. Once ditching AOL around 1999 I ended up on a local forum we used for electronic music, and then in 2003 made my way to a Star Wars fansite forum called BlueHarvest (I moderated there the last couple of years before the admin shut it down in 2008 or 2009). A couple friends and I then communicated via a forum we made for ourselves. Then Facebook, then Reddit...now here.

EDIT

I also had accounts with MySpace and Friendster too...Twitter for a few years around Arab Spring, but I didn't like it. Even back then The Bird was a toxic mess with rare moments of humanity. I think my avatar is still shaded green...if my account still exists.

I saw a video on Nebula a couple days ago about D&D that discusses everything you just mentioned about the litigation and subsequent fallout over the years with the game. This guy responded that the video is now out on YouTube. I think you'll see that a lot of what's been going on with the game is very repetitive.

You could copy and save it as a text file, and annotate links if necessary. That way you'll always have it.

Speaking about Phantom Liberty it reminds me. I finished the game prior to the patch that included items about David. Do you know if the events of Edgerunner are supposed to occur canonically during the events V's experiences, or afterwards?
