@Infiltrated_ad8271@kbin.social avatar

If you look for information about it (edit: of violentmonkey) years ago you will probably find negative reviews, as it had an ambiguous privacy policy that generated many suspicions and accusations; but they fixed it a long ago, it is an excellent addon.

LollerCorleone,
@LollerCorleone@kbin.social avatar

If you are talking about tampermonkey, I am sure it is a good addon. But it is no longer opensource. This post was meant for people who prefer opensource over proprietary as much as possible.

Nope, my whole comment was about violentmonkey. Take a look at this.

I remember seeing examples like this before. People attack maintainers with the same verve as a big corporation that they’re paying services for.

There are humans behind these projects and very few people want to fund them despite relying on them as well.

FarraigePlaisteach, en Floorp is a lean Firefox fork with privacy and customizability

I think it’s good for Firefox to get these alternatives using it as a base. Great news.

On,
@On@kbin.social avatar

ya, firefox really needed a customizable fork. I like my tabs on the sidebar and all the extensions didn't make the experience feel native.

Hopefully this project brings more people to Firefox.

I’ve been happily using LibreWolf,
a privacy minded fork of FireFox
for quite some time now.

What does Floorp have,
which LibreWolf doesn’t have?

jucktion,

LibreWolf is a privacy hardened fork. Floorp does remove some annoyances like pocket and telemetry, but probably not strict as LibreWolf. It adds to firefox in the customization section with native vertical tabs, sidebars, moving the navigation bar to the bottom, etc.

I used LibreWolf a long time ago, so probably not up-to-date on it, though.

centof, en Floorp is a lean Firefox fork with privacy and customizability

Thanks for sharing. Looks like its worth trying out.

smallaubergine, en Floorp is a lean Firefox fork with privacy and customizability

Trying it out right now, seems really solid. Took a while to get all my extensions ported over with all my settings. Wish Firefox sync could sync that stuff too. I love the side tabs, with tabscroller extension it's a blast. Gonna try as my main browser for a while

jucktion,

I'm glad you like it. I've been using this for a couple of weeks and I thought it was pretty solid too. I can have Firefox just the way I like it.

ozoned, en Evernote restricts free users to 50 notes. Time for open-source alternatives?
@ozoned@beehaw.org avatar

I host my own Joplin and wife and I sync our notes to it and we love it. She’s non-technical and has no issues figuring it out, but we use minimal features. It did just get the ability to draw pictures as well, but we use that mostly just for the kids to play with.

ProtonBadger,

Yeah Joplin is nice. I sync it to a free 10GB Dropbox account and use it on Linux and iOS. I've also used it with Android and Windows in the past, it's available everywhere and works great.

HubertManne, en Evernote restricts free users to 50 notes. Time for open-source alternatives?
@HubertManne@kbin.social avatar

which makes their name ironic. What happens to free users that already are above 50?

On,
@On@kbin.social avatar

According to the article, the content stays, just cannot add more notes or notebooks. I followed the link to Evernote FAQ, and it says:

In keeping with Evernote’s 3 Laws of Data Protection, and to ensure that all users retain full ownership of their data, any Free user who currently has more than fifty notes and one notebook will still be able to view, edit, export, share, and delete existing notes and notebooks.

thanks. this is good.
