GNOME is by far the biggest target of harassment in the FOSS space but it's by no means unique to GNOME this happens to basically every project with any noticiable level of usage Full Episode: https://youtu.be/kO0V7BE1bEo
Modding isn’t specific to PC Gaming only. There are entire communities and specialists dedicated to the development of Romhacks for old console games. Today we are looking at the Genesis / Mega Drive system.
The instance has been updated to the latest version of the code. For the next few hours, there might be issues with communication in the fediverse. We are working on it, and everything should return to normal shortly. I'll keep you updated....
I knew something was happening, because of the downtimes. I appreciate all the work and improvements you and the team behind it are doing. I don't know if this was a thing before, but I like the ability to hide commenter avatar too. And the themes, such a great update.
If that is something people want, then there will be distributions integrating AI tools as default configuration. But probably mostly open source solutions only. And most people maybe don't want AI applications, so there will always be AI free distros available. As long as it is not proprietary and controlled by one company only, I don't see any problem with integrating AI.
The same day that Unity confused all their developers with a new pay per user install revenue model, the team behind the open source Godot Engine just announced their new Godot Development Fund.
I am in a bit of a pickle. I'm a developer, and I also use some crypto social media, and I also like downloading media sometimes, I do a lot of stuff. I modify CSS, I script & hack the web, yadda yadda. Basically what this means is I ended up with like 50 addons I juggle-enable-disable all the time. This is extremely frustrating...
@kill How about creating a second Firefox profile dedicated to development? I did that for a different reason, to create a PDF viewer using Firefox. It has the right settings and addons only active when viewing a PDF. This idea could be used to have a dedicated development environment which does not interfere with your personal data and configuration. And you can back them up and restore individually.
The last major holdouts in the protest against Reddit’s API pricing relented, abandoning the so-called “John Oliver rules” which only allowed posts featuring the TV host. The article describes it as "the official end of the battle," which seems an overstatement to me, but it's the certainly the end of the initial phase....
@mojo True. He made a good introduction into both tiling window managers and holding off his own opinion/decision until end of video and only spoke 2 minutes out of 38 as a final verdict. He also do not push people into one system, just offering options and an opinion. In my mind this was well done first look for people to decide what they try next and what they await.
However it should be noted this was all in X11 and not Wayland.
@esty To be fair, the suggestion to use these extensions is good. But I prefer Firefox. It was the only way I could use Reddit. kbin and Lemmy are useable by default, even though it has some problems too. And dense people are everywhere, in Reddit, in Lemmy, in kbin, in Twitter. That does not mean everyone is one. Just the chance to hit an idiot is higher on Reddit and Twitter, because idiots would never consider switching from mainstream and shit on others.
And that's good. Good people switch, idiots stay on Reddit. Best filter ever. :D
Hello guys and gals, it's me Mutahar again! This time I deleted and destroyed my system just to rebuild it from the ground up and to teach you how to install what many fedora-tippers call the "hardest system" known as Arch Linux. Check out the install guide here and have a great day! Thanks for watching!
He is talking about Gentoo and LFS (being harder) in the beginning phase of the video. And in general he does talk a lot meme talks and don't mean it literally. It's probably just a joke or a wink to a friend of him using Fedora.
Other than that I appreciate his take on the installation, explaining all the things along the way. And with the 3.5 million subscribers, I think it will reach and teach a lot users to Arch and Linux in general. His content isn't even Linux centric, that's why this tutorial on the main channel is a highlight to me.
@Technological_Elite I don't understand what "Reddit for Lemmy" means. Is this some sort of application to convert Reddit posts to Lemmy or access through Lemmy?

@curiosityLynx The name is written out fully automatically when I click "Add comment"; kbin, the instance where I am, will put full identifier automatically. But on posting it only shows the "id name" without "instance part", but links to the account. Like in this situation with your name. My guess is, the person is still tagged correctly and only the HTML link name is shown in the browser.
I just wish it would link to the actual post or reply directly, instead the person. With the ability to preview on mouse hover (just like how it works on person accounts, at least for me on the desktop browser). This would make discussions more clear.
@Ferk Interesting. I have checked the link from you, to see it from their perspective. And sure enough that won't show me a link too, BUT... The guy from kglitch.social has a link. What I think happening is following: Because I respond to the guy in the same instance kbin.social, it won't put the entire name. I know this from Mastodon, where if we are in the same instance, I don't need to put the instance id to tag someone. And because the guy from kglitch is not in the same instance, it will automatically create a full id reference, which every instance render as a link.
Hopefully I could explain what I think is happening. Maybe it is not an issue with kglitch itself, but how Kbin works.
@Sentinian True. I don't use Google app store (or Apple) since years and totally forgot that. Maybe the algorithm of the shop will give recommendations based on the ratings.
Maybe someone smarter than me can explain things, but It's been about a month since I've started the process of creating a magazine to support the reddit/discord community I've helped mod for the past 4 years... but I've noticed that zero posts show up in google search....
@raphael Why is that? To prevent the site and posts becoming ad focused? I mean I can see that as a benefit. But on the other side, content that is not indexed by search machines is not much different from Discord. I always criticized Discord content for not being indexed, when arguing with my bro, and tell why Reddit (or any other open platform) is much better to post. Honestly, kbin disallowing crawlers to index the site is a big blow to me! I don't like that at all.
@raphael I didn't know the instances would copy the messages. Interesting! I think search engines need to be redesigned to respect robots of the origin instance then. If they are not designed for this, it surely looks local. That's kind of a mess then, from search engine perspective.
Strange enough, if I search with my search engine based on SearXNG the terms "final fantasy site:kbin.social", then it finds a few links. They are only based on tags or person, not the actual content. So maybe use tags, if you want to get indexed anyway.
If you recall reddits growth many of their communities evolved as offshoots of a single generic community. This made it easier for people to see discussions they normally would not get involved in, and once the posts in a similar category reached critical mass it moved to a sub Reddit....
TL;DR: even if your delete script confirms a full wipe and your Reddit profile page shows zero comment, there may still be comments left over (that you can find through a search engine and delete manually on Reddit)....
@anon Reddit is known for bringing deleted comments back, without your consent. That's especially bad for people who also delete the account, because they have no control anymore (I mean even less). Pretty scummy. More people should be aware of this issue.
@JohnEdwa The bots should not even hit the limit, otherwise its a hint for any anti-bot detection. Just create lot of small bots staying low on threshold to be detected. Together with an AI, then the missing bot detection utility and some missing moderators, Reddit should become a bigger pile than it is already.
I know there are addons, but would be nice to have something native built in instead of having to trust an addon. Current method without addons that I know of is creating a container then deleting it, but that's not as convenient and pretty cumbersome....
@ImaginaryFox I see. That's reasonable. I also had Temporary Containers in my head, but didn't suggest it as you wanted a native solution. Didn't even notice how old last update was! Unfortunately from my view and additional research, could not find a solution for you. It would be nice to have a "Open in New Temporary Container for Tab", that is managed temporarily and automatically deleted after closing tab.

@dumples OH, that's great! How did you do that? I would like to archive my comments too, if there is an easy way. Is there some tool for mass downloading (and probably deleting?).
@sneakyninjapants I know some people complained that Reddit would reinstate all comments that was deleted by hand, every single one. So if you delete your account, maybe Reddit will bring the comments back after some time. I didn't delete my account so far, only logged out and not logged in since. As I'm in the EU, Reddit probably has to provide such an option to download and delete my comments, but I'm not sure. Not going to log in for the moment. I will have this in mind though, thanks for point it out.
@staticlifetime I have some suggestions for addition: https://kbin.social/m/linuxgaming without the underscore in name exists. And as you have linked to a general purpose Open Source community, maybe you are interested into a gaming focused one as well https://kbin.social/m/opensourcegames .
